So. I tried. I really really did. I was going to go to the Rally to Restore Sanity in DC and I made plans to carpool with this dude on CS... but then I ended up having to back out last minute due to illness (and partial exhaustion).. And then I sent out a call for help to a facebook group for my website final.. and no one ever got back to me. Well, one chick did, but then I sent her another message to set something up.. and then she fell off the face of the earth!
The thing about the meeting someone online thing is that I really felt like it was forced.. like I had a deadline to meet someone and build a relationship.. and that's just not how I work. I know that some people were leery of this assignment because they were uncomfortable with meeting someone they'd met online. I don't have that problem. I've actually met a couple of people in person that I had known exclusively online.. but it was a situation where it was the next logical step, not just because I had a deadline. One guy I talked to for 4 YEARS online before we met in person. As a matter of fact, I think it was about 3 years before we even spoke on the phone! There was another guy I'd met on facebook (we had a lot of the same friends) and we messaged back and forth for about 6 months before we decided to grab a drink together. (PS neither of these were "dating" type relationships.. they just both happen to be guys.. not that there's anything WRONG with online dating!! I just wanted to clarify:)) So meeting people online isn't a problem for me, it's well within my comfort zone.. I just like it to be a natural progression.
... but I really did try :)
